A friend of mine is going to New York this week and it reminded me of those few years I spent hanging around, especially the music that came with. New York is about the down and dirty, the deep and soulful, and will always remain one of my favorite places. Here’s a mix with some of my favorite songs that I experienced living in that little island we call New York City.

Facebook’s latest attempt to keep up with twitter now allows developers to access their “Status” API stream. However this of course comes with a caveat, Facebook users must OPT in to allow developers to access this data. No doubt Facebook wants marketers/advertisers to begin using this technology and possibly create pages to rival twitters “search.twitter.com” hash tag function, but will this ever be possible while Facebook attempts to keep users privacy right one of their top priorities?

Facebook Open Status API

Facebook Open Status API

Is this in fact the fundamental flaw in Facebooks current push to push brands? In order to truly make money, they must sacrifice their users privacy rights, but if that does happen, look for users to begin running back to MySpace? (Now that it is under the helm of former Facebook top executive Owen Van Natta)

It should be interesting to see how the Facebook vs. Twitter battle continues to play out, both companies continue to make moves to gain traction within the social sphere.

REMEMBERED MUSIC

‘Tis said, the pipe and lute that charm our ears
Derive their melody from rolling spheres;
But Faith, o’erpassing speculation’s bound,
Can see what sweetens every jangled sound.

We, who are parts of Adam, heard with him
The song of angels and of seraphim.
Out memory, though dull and sad, retains
Some echo still of those unearthly strains.

Oh, music is the meat of all who love,
Music uplifts the soul to realms above.
The ashes glow, the latent fires increase:
We listen and are fed with joy and peace.

– Rumi

Short and sweet but to the point. Design can change the everything

I recently traveled via Virgin America to see some friends and I could not help but notice how engaging and fun their safety video is. If all “help” and instructional videos were this enjoyable, I think we would all have a more pleasant experience going through the monatenous things in life. Creating pleasurable experiences allow us to persuade our audience.

Some of you who know me know that I have recently began pursing the art of DJing around the beautiful city of San Francisco

well I’ve finally sat down and recorded a mix, so here it is

A friend of mine and I were recently discussing the merits of what makes “good art.” Should good art be strictly based on the technical ability of the artist to replicate moments in time to perfection, or is what makes good art the ability of the artist to provoke our mind and soul, regardless of the actual technique they used to create this art. Do we always want to look at art that the Da Vinci’s and Renoir’s of our world create, or would we rather be stimulated by pieces by the Kandinsky’s of this world.

The more I think about it the more I realize this debate can be extended into any form of study or practice. Do we look for cold perfection or passionate chaos…..well my friend ended up besting me by sending me a little article later in the day; the article stated it is in fact “passionate virtuosity” that we should all seek and strive to experience. The combination of both worlds.

Passionate Virtuoisity…..something to think about
